Pick and claim your name

Your name is the part before .site.link, like mycafe in mycafe.site.link. Here's what you can pick, what's off limits, and how to claim it without leaving your chat.

What a name can be

A name works if it is:

  • 3 to 63 characters long.
  • Letters, numbers and hyphens only. Capitals are fine to type, and they're saved in lowercase.
  • Started and ended with a letter or number, so -mycafe won't work.
  • One word with no dots. mycafe works, my.cafe doesn't.
  • Free of two hyphens in the third and fourth places, like ab--cafe. Web addresses save that pattern for other uses.

Short and easy to say beats clever. If someone hears your address once, they should be able to type it without asking how it's spelled.

Names you can't claim

  • Names that look official, like www, api, admin, login, help, support, shop, store and blog.
  • Brand names, like chatgpt, claude, google or paypal.
  • Names with phishing words anywhere in them, like login, verify, wallet or password. That rules out names such as paypal-verify or secure-login.
  • Names someone else holds. Names are first come, first served.

If you release a name, it's held for you for 14 days. Nobody else can claim it in that time, so you can change your mind.

Check if it's taken

Type a name into the checker on the homepage or the pricing page. It says whether the name is free and what it costs per year once its free days end.

You can also ask in a chat that has site.link added. If the name is taken, site.link suggests close ones:

Is mycafe.site.link available?

Used site.link

mycafe.site.link is taken. These are free: mycafe-site, mycafehq and getmycafe.

Claim it in the chat

You don't claim a name on a website. You ask ChatGPT or Claude, once site.link is added to it. If you haven't done that yet, add site.link to ChatGPT or add site.link to Claude first.

Then say "Claim mycafe.site.link for me".

Most of the time you can skip this step. Asking Claude to publish a page at an address, or asking ChatGPT to give your Site one, claims the name first. One account can hold as many names as you like, one per site.

What it costs

Every name is free for its first 30 days, with no card. After that, its price depends on the name:

A name's price is set the day you claim it. When the free days are nearly up, see how to keep your name.
