Add your address to a ChatGPT Site by hand
Usually ChatGPT adds your address to your Site on its own. When it can't, it asks you to do one step in the Site's settings. It takes a minute, and there's no DNS provider to sign in to.
What you need
- A name you've claimed, like mycafe.site.link.
- The chat where you built your Site, with site.link added.
1. Open your Site's domain settings
Open your Site in ChatGPT Sites and go to its settings. Find the custom domain section and click Add domain.
2. Add your address
Type the whole address, mycafe.site.link, not just mycafe. It has to be a name your account has claimed. If it isn't yet, claim it in the chat first.
3. Copy the records the Site shows
The Site lists the DNS records it needs. For a site.link address they look like this:
Copy every record, including the long codes. The codes are different for every Site, so copy them exactly.
4. Paste them into the chat
Go back to the chat with site.link and paste them after your request:
@site.link Connect mycafe.site.link with these records: CNAME mycafe, TXT _openai-site-verification.mycafe, TXT _cf-custom-hostname.mycafe
Used site.link
Done. The records for mycafe.site.link are in place. Refresh the domain status in your Site's settings.
site.link checks that every record points at ChatGPT Sites before it creates them. Records that point anywhere else are refused, which keeps site.link addresses from being used for phishing.
5. Refresh the domain status
Back in your Site's domain settings, refresh the status. The domain usually verifies within a few minutes, and HTTPS turns on shortly after. To check from the chat, ask whether your address is live, as in connecting your ChatGPT Site.
